This floor telescope by Casa Padrino is not a miniature but a piece of furniture: the tube measures about one metre, and the tripod brings it up to 150 cm eye level.

The brass tube is darkly burnished rather than mirror polished. The draw tube for the eyepiece sits at its end, and at the front the objective cap hangs on a fine chain, just as it did on nineteenth century ship's glasses. A fork with a locking screw lets the tube tilt and swing.

The tripod is made of reddish brown stained wood, the legs held by brass collars and adjustable in length by wing screws. Folded they stand close together; opened out they give a stable footprint of about a metre.

As decoration such a telescope belongs by a window, in a library, a study or an entrance hall. It speaks of travel and seafaring without requiring a maritime room around it.

An eye-catcher that needs space and earns it: freestanding, presentable from every side, and at 6.5 kg light enough to move when the sun does.
